Friction Ridge Skin: Morphogenesis and Overview

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The friction ridge skin occurs on the palmar sides of the hands and the plantar sides of the feet of all primates, including humans. As the name implies, the skin is ridged to produce friction. The friction aids in grasping and walking. The friction ridge skin also contains numerous sweat glands, and the pore openings are located along the tops of the ridges. The friction ridge skin does not contain sebaceous (oil) glands or hair follicles. In addition to the ridges, creases are found cress crossing through the friction ridge skin. These creases, in addition to the furrows between the ridges, permit flexibility of the skin. Figure 1 shows the friction ridge skin on a foot, palm, and finger; arrows point to ridges (R) and creases (C).

Immunohistochemical study of type III collagen expression during pre and post-natal rat skin morphogenesis

Objective(s):Skin extracellular matrix, which contains type I and type III collagens, is involved in skin development. The aim of this study was to investigate type III collagen distribution pattern as well as its changes during pre and post-natal skin morphogenesis in rats. Materials and Methods: Ventral skins of Wistar rat embryos at different stages from 10 to 20 gestational day (E10-E20) a...

Protein-Trap Insertional Mutagenesis Uncovers New Genes Involved in Zebrafish Skin Development, Including a Neuregulin 2a-Based ErbB Signaling Pathway Required during Median Fin Fold Morphogenesis

Skin disorders are widespread, but available treatments are limited. A more comprehensive understanding of skin development mechanisms will drive identification of new treatment targets and modalities. Here we report the Zebrafish Integument Project (ZIP), an expression-driven platform for identifying new skin genes and phenotypes in the vertebrate model Danio rerio (zebrafish). In vivo selecti...

Nanotribological and nanomechanical properties of skin with and without cream treatment using atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation.

Various beauty care products involve surface interaction between the product and the skin surface they are applied to. Friction, adhesion and wear during sliding between the treated surface and the rubbing surfaces need to be optimized. Skin cream is used to improve skin health and create a smooth, soft, and flexible surface with moist perception by altering the surface roughness, friction, adh...
